The leaves have changed colour in Orillia and are starting to fall off the trees. The temperature is falling steadily, too. These are the days when you want to curl up with a hot cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate and indulge in a something rich and sweet, something chocolatey. The Williams and McDaniel blog team has a few decadent chocolate desserts for you to enjoy during the cooler days of fall.

Salted Almond Truffle Tart

This Salted Almond Truffle Tart is an incredibly rich indulgence that doesn’t hold back on the sugar, the butter or the flavour.  A roasted almond crust enhances the richness of the chocolate filling and a sprinkle of sea salt on top perfectly balances the dish.

No Bake Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheesecake.

If you want a decadent chocolate cheesecake without having to even turn on the oven in your Williams and McDaniel kitchen, this is the recipeone for you. The classic flavour combination of chocolate and peanut butter is taken to another level with the addition of oreo (or similar) cookies.

Almost Famous Molten Chocolate Cake

This explosively flavourful Famous Molten Chocolate Cake looks almost as good as it tastes. The chocolate cake, when topped with a layer of ice cream and a layer of chocolate syrup, resembles a volcano. When you dig into it, warm liquid chocolate flows out like chocolate lava.

The Ultimate Chocolate Pie

The name says it all, we love this Ultimate Chocolate Pie. A crumbled cookie crumb and pecan crust is filled with a rich chocolate mousse and topped with chocolate whipped cream. It’s cream pie perfection.

Life is sweeter with a little chocolate, and incredible with a lot of chocolate. The Williams and McDaniel blog team hopes you enjoy these delicious desserts. Orillia 4 reasons why vacations in the fall are better than summer

No summer vacation? No problem! The best season for vacationing is just getting started. Learn  why fall vacations are even better than the summer vacations in today’s blog post for residents at Orillia apartments. The Williams and McDaniel blog team hopes this post will inspire you to pack your bags.

1. Less people

As a general rule, fewer families travel during the fall, which means you can enjoy less traffic and fewer lines wherever you go, whatever you do. You may find that with fewer folks to navigate around, both on the road and at your chosen destination, you are able to fit more sightseeing into your day.

2. Great rates

As demand goes down, so too do the prices. Especially if you’re planning to fly, rent a car or book a hotel, the budget-friendly cost for autumn reservations might be worth the wait alone.

3. Stunning scenery

Experience the beauty of the changing fall colours as you hit the road. Without the oppressive summer heat, you and your family may end up spending more time outdoors than you would during a June, July or August vacation. Looking for a beautiful spot near Orillia apartments to explore? Lake Simcoe Fall Colour Routes are perfect for laid-back, scenic fall adventures.

4. Festival season

Beer fest, jazz fest, harvest celebrations and more, fall is renowned for its many seasonal festivals. Check out what’s happening all across Ontario, near and far from Orillia apartments, and plan your road trip to include one of these must-experience cultural events.
The Williams and McDaniel blog team hopes you enjoy all the perks of fall vacations. For more information about Orillia apartments and the many easy-to-get-to destinations nearby, please visit our website.

How to eat more fruit and veg this summer

Summer is the time for taking it easy, if you can. If you are looking to eat healthier this summer without spending too much time thinking about it, the Williams and McDaniel blog team has some ideas for how to get more fruit and vegetables into your day, without trying too hard. You can find all the produce you need at Country Produce. Best of all, the store is less than a 10 minute bike ride from Noble Towers (391 Barrie Road, Orillia)

Start with breakfast

Breakfast is an easy way to start your day with fruit. A fresh fruit plate, or even a couple of pieces for the road, will get you going. If you have time for something a bit more substantial in the morning, try adding fresh or frozen fruit to your oatmeal.

Double up on veggies

A straight-forward way to get more vegetables into a meal is to double up on them. Try making this basic vegetable soup recipe but use double the vegetables it calls for. The extra vegetables will not spoil the recipe, far from it. They will enhance the flavour, texture and nutrient value, while adding to your daily intake. A cup of leafy green vegetables or a half a cup of chopped vegetables equals one full serving.

Pile them on pizza

Pizza presents the perfect opportunity to pile on the veggies. Even if you order in, you can order double veggies, or add them on top when it’s delivered. If you want to go the extra mile, this video will show you how to make a gluten-free cauliflower crust for you next pie.

Drink your veggies

The trouble with eating lots of raw, leafy vegetables can be the time it takes to chew them! You can avoid this issue by drinking your veggies in a green smoothie. This kale smoothie with pineapple and banana will hit the spot, with no chewing required.
Making sure you get enough fruits and vegetables into your diet this summer can be as easy as a day at the beach. For more information on Williams and McDaniel rental properties in Orillia, including the Executive Suites at 114 Creighton Street, please visit our website.

W&M -Orillia- Gourmet camping recipes for summer

One of our favourite summer activities is camping. Exploring nature, breathing fresh air — what better way is there to spend a summer weekend? There are lots of great places to camp in and around Orillia. If you’re planning a camping trip, the Williams and McDaniel blog team wants to help you make the most of your camping trip without making you rough it in the meals department. Forget hot dogs and beans — here are some delicious gourmet meals to try on your next trip into the wilderness.

Campfire chicken with roasted brussel sprouts, potatoes and dill

You don’t have to limit your camping dinners to roasting hot dogs on a stick over the fire. This chicken with roasted brussel sprouts potatoes and dill recipe will hit the spot after a day of hiking, swimming or just laying in a hammock with a good book.

Vegan sweet potato corn chowder

This satisfying and substantial soup can be cooked completely on a campfire. Roast or grill the corn and sweet potatoes in the campfire, grill the veggies over the fire and cook the soup in a dutch oven over the fire or on a camp stove.

Fire roasted vegetable salad

This salad makes the perfect side for any grilled meat or fish, or you can add beans to make it a vegetarian main course. Place the onion, garlic and peppers for this fire roasted vegetable salad right on the embers of the fire to infuse the salad with an incredible smoky flavour.

Don’t forget dessert

Your sweet tooth doesn’t go on vacation just because you’ve gone camping. If the idea of making some more s’mores doesn’t thrill you, how about a pineapple upside down cake made in a simple tinfoil pouch over the fire? It’s the perfect recipe to try if you’re trying to impress your camping buddies.
Get back to nature without denying your tastebuds. A delicious, comforting meal after a day at the campsite can be one of life’s greatest simple pleasures. We hope this week’s post inspires you to expand your camping menu for those days when hot dogs just won’t do. You can find the ingredients you need for next adventure at Zehrs, 289 Coldwater Road, Orillia — a 5 minute drive from Noble Towers, 391 Barrie Road. Start the night right

Add a seasonal fruit, such as peaches, for a sweet treat. You can also combine all of your favourite seasonal fruits in this tempting Summer Berry Sangria. Serve your beverage with a light, easy-to-make appetizer.

Dinner for two

Cooking dinner does not have to be stressful. If you use locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables, you are practically guaranteed a flavourful, healthier meal. Before date night, visit the Orillia Farmers’ Market held at the Orillia Public Library (36 Mississaga Street West,). The market is only an eight-minute bike ride from Noble Towers Apartments. Market hours are on Saturday from 7:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Incorporate your seasonal produce into your choice of delicious date night recipes.

Get to know your sweetheart

Spend your date night enjoying the warmer weather on the balcony. Show your date how much they mean to you by making an effort to get to know them better. Use this fun questionnaire to get started. Another simple but fun activity is to enjoy a game of cards. Play your favourite game for two, or learn a new game together.
A memorable date night might be easier to plan than you think. Take advantage of your apartment balcony, plan a meal filled with irresistible summer flavours and enjoy an evening focused on the person you care about most. In Orillia, we celebrate with a jam-packed summer theatre season
at the Orillia Opera House. Williams and McDaniel Property Management has put together an overview of Orillia’s upcoming plays in anticipation of the 2015 summer season.

This summer, the season runs from June 25th to August 29th and features four live theatre shows, including Outlaw and The Ladies Foursome, both written by Norm Foster and directed by Jesse Collins, as well as On Golden Pond by Ernest Thompson and The Vaudevillians by Peter Colley.

Noble Towers (391 Barrie Road) is just 2.5 kilometres from the Orillia Opera House (20 Mississaga Street West), so you’re only a 20-minute walk from the doorstep of professional live theatre.

The first show of the season, Outlaw, runs from June 25th to July 4th, and is followed by On Golden Pond, running from July 9th-25th. The Ladies Foursome opens on July 30th and runs until August 8th, and, the last play of the season, The Vaudevillians, runs from August 13th-29th. All shows include Thursday matinees and evening shows, as well as weekend evening shows on Fridays and Saturdays.

If you’re walking to the Orillia Opera House from Noble Towers, Era 67 (64 Mississauga Street West) is a great spot to stop for a bite before or after the show. Located less than a block away from the venue, this five-star restaurant offers patrons a classy dining experience rooted in the versatile heritage of Canada, hence its name, referring to 1867 — the year of Confederation.

Whether you’re a diehard play-lover, or a first-timer for live theatre, the summer lineup at the Orillia Opera House is sure to have you coming back for more. Different ticket pricing options (flex packages, single or group) are available for purchase here.

Williams and McDaniel is excited about this year’s summer theatre, and hopes you are too. For more information about Noble Towers, you can visit their website.
