Fall is a special time of year. The oppressive heat of summer has faded to a memory and the bitter cold of winter feels far away. For a few precious weeks, the cool, crisp air embraces you as the colours of the leaves change from green to gold, orange and red. This is the perfect time to visit a nearby green space for a walk in the fall foliage. Living in Orillia gives you lots of options for great nature walks. The blog team at Williams and McDaniel has put together a short list of parks and trails to take in some fall – before it falls away.
Tudhope Park is a beautiful 65 acre park on the shore of Lake Couchiching. It’s less than a 5 minute drive from the Executive Suites at 114 Creighton Street. You can even ride your bike there in about 10 minutes. There is ample parking and winding paved trails for walking or biking. The trails are beautiful in fall as they are lined with the changing leaves of oak and maple trees.
Just a 10 minute drive from Noble Towers (391 Barrie Road) you’ll find Bass Lake Provincial Park. During the summer, it’s a popular spot for camping and swimming. During the fall and winter, the park is closed except for hiking and snowshoeing. The area is perfect for a quiet and peaceful walk and a great spot to view the fall foliage. There is a small fee for parking.
Wye Marsh is a 45 minute to 1 hour drive from Noble Towers or The Executive Suites at 114 Creighton, making it an easy day trip. It’s an amazing site for fall hiking. There are over 25 kilometres of trails, and pets are welcome. On weekends you can take guided kayak tours through the marsh. The park is open everyday from 9am to 5pm (closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day). Admission is $11 for adults and $8 for children (under 3 are free).
Scout Valley Loop Trail
Less than 5 minutes by car from Noble Towers or 15 minutes from The Executive Suites at 114 Creighton you’ll find the Scout Valley Loop Trail, nestled within a 93 hectare nature park. There are 3 interconnected, wooded trails, each 2km long. Each trail can be completed independently, beginning from different parking lots.
Fall foliage is fleeting so make the most of this special time. For more information on Williams and McDaniel rental properties in Orillia, please visit our website.
